Genetics Knowledge Improving Health 'LONDON IDEAS'
Doctor listening to patients heart beat

London IDEAS engaged with schools across London, to support teachers and students in genetics education. Our focus was on both the science of genetics, and the social and ethical implications of genetics advances.

Our programme for schools was run by Dr Gail Davies, a lecturer and a qualified teacher with experience of genetics education in schools and higher education.

New teaching materials for our "Genetics into schools" initiative, including games and practicals, were developed and piloted across a small number of schools, before general release. They will soon be available in "classroom friendly" format on the Institute of Biology website. MORE INFO

London IDEAS also worked with the Science Learning Centre in London at the Institute of Education to produce genetic courses to inspire teachers.

A genetics research experience week was run for sixth formers. This was run at the end of the summer term and was primarily aimed at students completing AS levels and intending to study biological sciences or medicine at university.
